The area of the castle of
Riolas covers 7 hectares. It is located in Haute Garonne, at the
entrance of the Comminges country, very near of the Gers and Hautes
Pyrenees departments, on the first fold of the Pyrenean foothills. Its
dominant position gives an exclusive view of the mountain.
Real estate comprises, in addition to the Castle, a building called
'the manor house' which shelters two flats (still to restore) and a
farm building consisted of sheds and a stable of time with 5 large
boxes for horses. The 3 buildings enclose a recreation area primarily
occupied by a large (6 m x 12 m) swimming pool surrounded by a nice
wooden terrace of approximately 100 m ² terrace. A gazebo with a
spa complete this set livened by flowers and roses bushes.
The park focuses on the natural and wild side and a herd of sheeps is
involved in its maintenance. It includes many hundred-year-old
trees, lindens, ashes, chestnuts, oaks... surrounding a large pool, old
fishing pool of the Castle. The park has unfortunately been devastated
by a whirlwind on July 9th, 2002. It still carries many stigmas and
much remains to be done for its restoration. To see, at the end of the
summer, the esplanade of the Castle covers with dwarf cyclamens which
are proliféring in the park.
